In June 1998, in response, to concerns about the fairness of its employee grievance process and as part of a broader effort to reform its human resource policies, the World Bank appointed an internal Grievance Process Review Committee. 1 The Review Committee was charged with examining the Bank's grievance system and recommending changes to make the system more fair and credible. The Committee undertook a broad examination of the Bank's existing system and possible alternatives. In response to a requirement in the Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 1999,2 this report analyzes (1) the Review Committee's principal findings and recommendations and steps the Bank plans to take to implement these recommendations and (2) key issues that Bank management will face as it moves to implement these recommendations.
