In 1882, a traveler named Walter Watson fell into a long and deep geyser tube, while accompanied by three other men, who gave him up for dead and left. #4 In the 1880s, hot-spring injuries began to occur in greater numbers as visitors to Yellowstone increased. A Mr. Crossman was scalded in the Fountain Paintpot in 1884, a young boy in the same summer who convalesced at Marshall’s Hotel, and another man in the Artists’ Paintpots in 1888.
