Paul Krol is a private investigator whose friends jokingly call him “King of The Polish PIs” (Krol in Polish means king). Paul is six five on a muscular frame, walks with a slight limp and carries a cane. Professional football player is what Paul wanted to be but the dream crashed with an injury sustained in the Michigan State-Purdue football game. He became a high school phys-ed instructor and football coach, but after helping a private investigator with part-time surveillance, Paul liked the work. Part-time work became full-time and when his partner was killed while trying to prevent a hold-up, Paul took over the business. It was Charlie, an old Vietnamese stick fighter who taught Paul the art of self-defense with a cane. Guns killed people. Paul’s brother died in the war, and his partner died with his own gun; perhaps there was a better way for Paul than relying on a gun. Paul entered the Clover War, as he called it, to help John Callahan. Callahan was Uncle Kaz’s World War II buddy. Callahan’s problem began when he called police to stop criminal activity in the neighborhood. The gang made John an example of what happened to anyone who fought back. They trashed Callahan’s house and property. People walked by John’s place to see, shook their heads, and did nothing about it. Paul is shocked. Enough! Time to fight back! Paul shows residents how to take back their community. Paul has plenty of help. There is Uncle Kaz, as big as Paul and a devoted family man who became head of the family when Paul’s father died. Kaz can make anything in his tool shop, and alongside Paul, these two put fear in the hearts of opposition. There is Wanda, Paul’s beautiful high school sweetheart, a tall girl, a quiet beauty but don’t you dare mess with her Paul.
