Any attempt to disarm a suspect who is pointing a firearm at the officer is a last resort measure. If an officer is alert and attentive to potential dangers, this last resort will never have to be employed. This chapter will focus on weapon retention (defensive awareness, regain control) and describe some techniques for disarming which must only be used as last resort.
